Celebrate the holidays with friends and neighbors as a 20-foot tree and 12-foot menorah lit for Hanukkah brighten the new Arts Plaza and a choir sings holiday tunes. Warm up with hot beverages, fire pits, s’mores, and tasty treats for kids and grown-ups. The festivities are free and all are welcome. Don’t miss the brief program at 5:30 pm, with a welcome from Naima Jefferson, president of the Shepherd Park Citizens Association; blessings from Rabbi Michael Werbow of Tifereth Israel Congregation and Rev. Terri McLellan, senior pastor of Shepherd Park Christian Church; and a note from Mark Simpson with Urban Atlantic.
The event takes place on Saturday, December 4, from 5-6:30 pm at the Arts Plaza at The Parks, 6810 Cameron Drive, adjacent to the dog park. Biking, scooting, and walking are recommended.
Provide & Wrap Gifts for Children With Housing Up
This year, we are partnering with Housing Up on their Holiday Drive, which is raising funds to purchase gifts for the nearly 1,500 children in their permanent supportive housing program. You can donate on their website, or bring new, unwrapped gifts for children ages 0-18 to the Holiday Celebration.
We’ll have a wrapping station so all you crafty folks out there can help wrap and label the new gifts! Wrapping paper, tape, and scissors will be provided, as well as plenty of good cheer.
